Republicans vs Democrats
Once again a division has been set between the Republicans and Democrats. While Clinton and Obama team up, John McCain and Mitt Romney join hands to fight against the Democrats.

County Republicans are uncertain about whom to back in 2008 presidential race
If things appear jumbled in the democratic corner, just look into the republican side. Things look pretty scrambled, and there doesn’t seem to be one front runner.

McCain’s age, demeanor work against candidacy
This article from the Los Angeles Times’ Ralph Vartabedian can be viewed through the San Francisco Chronicle.
McCain brings to the campaign a body and mind with some heavy wear and tear, including a couple of bouts of cancer and the effects of years of torture in a Hanoi prison. If elected, he would be the oldest person in history to enter the White House, and if he served two terms he would leave office an octogenarian.

GOP candidates moving to the right on immigration
An article from the Washington Post notes that Republican candidates are talking much less about legalization when it comes to immigration for fear of alienating their base.
Activists on both sides of the debate say the presidential candidates are becoming more conservative on the issue, believing that GOP primary voters who will decide the Republican nomination want tougher positions on how to deal with illegal immigrants.

Bloomberg: Neutral in 2008
One of the most powerful men in America has decided not to endorse anyone for president. Odd considering that Giuliani backed him in his race for mayor and seeing that Bloomberg is a Republican. My opinion is that he’s just a little to scared of what the far-left leaning constituents of New York think.

McCain: Tough for abortion rights rivals
I found this article on the Kansas City Star website.
It will be interesting to see if McCain can right the ship. He has always been a big advocate of moderation, and can have a lot of pull from the middle. But if he is backing abortion what does that do for the Bible Belt community?

Brownback, Huckabee & Tancredo Don’t Believe in Evolution
One of the more interesting things to come out of the first Republican candidate debate last week in Simi Valley. Senator McCain was asked if he believed in evolution, and after a pause, said yes. The moderator then asked if there was anyone on stage who did not believe in evolution. Three candidates raised their hands – Governor Mike Huckabee, Senator Sam Brownback and Representative Tom Tancredo. Watch the clip here, or read some interesting commentary here.

Thompson’s Politics Much Like McCain’s
This article discusses how presidential candidate Fred Thompson is sharing some of the same ideas and stances that McCain believes in. Thompson supports the Iraq war and stated that people who say it is like Vietnam are already calling it a defeat.
Fred Thompson fervently backed the Iraq war, railed against an expanding federal government, took stands that occasionally annoyed his party and rarely spoke about his views on social issues during his tenure as a senator from Tennessee or in his writings and speeches since leaving office.
In short, the man some in the GOP are touting as a dream candidate has often sounded like the presidential hopeful many of them seem ready to dismiss: Sen. John McCain (Ariz.).
