Giuliani Tempers Tough Image on Campaign
Seems that Giuliani has set aside his edgyness for the time being for the 2008 campaign.

County Republicans are uncertain about whom to back in 2008 presidential race
If things appear jumbled in the democratic corner, just look into the republican side. Things look pretty scrambled, and there doesn’t seem to be one front runner.

Not everybody loves Rudy
Specifically not Jerome Hauer, who blasts the perception of Giuliani as “America’s Mayor,” specifically on 9/11, right out of the water in this New York Times article.
Hauer also provides a rather Godfather-like anecdote about Giuliani as the reason why the two men are no longer close.
Mr. Hauer, for example, recalls a conversation he had with Mr. Giuliani in 2001 when he had decided to endorse a Democrat, Mark Green, for New York City mayor over Mr. Giuliani’s own choice for a successor, Michael R. Bloomberg, a Republican. Mr. Hauer said Mr. Giuliani, upset, called up to say his disloyalty was unforgivable.
“He was shouting, ‘If you do this, you’re done … I’m going to end your career,’ or something along those lines,” Mr. Hauer said.

Was Rudy Right?
Pat Buchanan provides an interesting analysis of Rudy Giuliani’s much-discussed rebuke of Ron Paul after the Congressman’s remarks on US involvement in the Middle East at the South Carolina Republican presidential debate May 15th. Giuliani has received a great deal of acclaim for his remarks but Buchanan, not someone I normally find myself in agreeance with, makes a convincing argument that Ron Paul was in fact, correct.

Edwards, Giuliani report multimillion-dollar incomes for 2006
This article was written by Dan Morain for the Los Angeles Times.
Three top contenders for president — including Romney, the richest — have yet to submit financial disclosure statements. The Obamas made nearly $1 million…Republican presidential candidate Rudolph W. Giuliani earned $16 million last year — including $11.4 million in speaking fees — and Democratic contender John Edwards’ income topped $7 million, the candidates’ financial disclosure statements released Wednesday show.

GOP candidates moving to the right on immigration
An article from the Washington Post notes that Republican candidates are talking much less about legalization when it comes to immigration for fear of alienating their base.
Activists on both sides of the debate say the presidential candidates are becoming more conservative on the issue, believing that GOP primary voters who will decide the Republican nomination want tougher positions on how to deal with illegal immigrants.

“Abortion Rises Anew for Giuliani”
Interesting article about Giuliani and his take on abortion.
Mr. Giuliani did not cite values as a theme, which is unusual for a major Republican presidential candidate, and the omission seemed especially striking Monday, coming as it did just hours after a report that he and his former wife had donated $900 to an abortion rights advocacy group and provider.

Bloomberg: Neutral in 2008
One of the most powerful men in America has decided not to endorse anyone for president. Odd considering that Giuliani backed him in his race for mayor and seeing that Bloomberg is a Republican. My opinion is that he’s just a little to scared of what the far-left leaning constituents of New York think.

In the Spotlight, a Bid for a Winner to Take All

Giuliani to Support Abortion Rights
New York Times article here.
After months of conflicting signals on abortion, Rudolph W. Giuliani is planning to offer a forthright affirmation of his support for abortion rights in public forums, television appearances and interviews in the coming days, despite the potential for bad consequences among some conservative voters already wary of his views, aides said yesterday.
