Thompson Hunts for a Red November
Check out this article from ABCnews online about unofficial candidate Fred Thompson.
Without raising a single campaign dollar or giving a single stump speech, Thompson threatens to knock one or more of the 2008 candidates out of the top tier — and his 6-foot 6-inch frame will crowd out long-shot candidates who hope to emerge as the choice of social conservatives.
Thompson is moving toward announcing his candidacy in early July, according to two Republicans close to Thompson.
He plans to file paperwork June 4 with the Federal Election Commission that will allow him to begin raising money for a potential bid, and associates say he wants to start his campaign with a fundraising splash that will demonstrate his status as a viable candidate.

A Tale of Two Thompsons
This article from the Spectator compares and contrasts Tommy and Fred. I found this one listed on Tommy’s website and it’s not necessarily completely flattering for the former Wisconsin governor.

Thompson wins GOP straw poll in WA
He’s not one of my chosen candidates but I thought I would post this nonetheless. The WA Republicans unofficially picked their candidate. Too bad he’s not a candidate.

Thompson’s Politics Much Like McCain’s
This article discusses how presidential candidate Fred Thompson is sharing some of the same ideas and stances that McCain believes in. Thompson supports the Iraq war and stated that people who say it is like Vietnam are already calling it a defeat.
Fred Thompson fervently backed the Iraq war, railed against an expanding federal government, took stands that occasionally annoyed his party and rarely spoke about his views on social issues during his tenure as a senator from Tennessee or in his writings and speeches since leaving office.
In short, the man some in the GOP are touting as a dream candidate has often sounded like the presidential hopeful many of them seem ready to dismiss: Sen. John McCain (Ariz.).

Fred Thompson, acting or for real?
The L.A. Times has this article about someone from Hollywood who’s not only acting like a President for the cameras but he’s an actor, too.

Cancer and the 2008 election
Walter Shapiro from Salon postulates on the interesting fact that the top three Republican contenders — McCain, Giuliani and Fred Thompson — have been diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives.
John Kerry and Bob Dole also had surgeries to combat prostate cancer before running for President.
All now speak of how they’re in excellent health and what living with cancer has done for them.
