Mitt Romney talking about his religion

I have been interested in hearing about Mitt Romney because of his Mormon faith. Personally I’m not Mormon but hearing that a candidate is, is interesting because I have been wondering what the role that his faith will have on the election. The article discusses his religion and the religion other politicians. It also states that Romney has said that not all Mormon’s will vote for Romney because the division of the country runs just as deep as between the Mormon population.

Clinton and Obama

Hillary was a bit surprised by the quick rise of Obama and this Time article discusses some of the advantages that Obama has over Clinton and what she is planning to do about them. The article notes that Obama has the advantage of the internet.

Democrats debate terrorism response

Check out this article to see how presidential candidates in the first Democratic Presidential Debate responded to questions about how they would handle terrorists hitting two American cities…the article says that the debate did not really change the shape of the race at all, but definitely gave a “flash point” afterwards between rivals, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, regarding the subject.

Who’s Tommy?

One candidate is shrugging aside the big television interviews and the national spotlight. He’s doing his campaigning Iowa style!

That candidate is President Bush’s former Secretary of Health and Human Services, Tommy G. Thompson. The Washington Post states before his cabinet experience he was also Governor of Wisconsin (my home state). His website isn’t that interactive yet but he’d love to put you on his email list. Maybe he has a website just for his Iowan friends. Why not announce in Iowa? It’s a pivotal early state and right next to his home state.

p.s. Check the Washington Post for a list of Presidential candidates along with bios, money raised and recent articles about them.

FEC: Campaign Finance and You!

Look up all campaign finance reports from 1993 to 2004 on the Federal Election Comittee’s website to see how well your favorite candidates stacked up in the previous elections. With the longer campaign period for the 2008 election, we can only imagine how the frontrunning candidates will smash 2004’s numbers.

Bloggers descend on Dems’ gathering

Check out this article from the San Francisco Chronicle about bloggers emerging as a great force at the California State Convention. This year at the convention, 50 professional bloggers will join the ranks of some 400 traditional media representatives to interview Democratic candidates.

The Hillary Project

Over at my brother’s very nicely produced website he linked to this website. I have never heard of it, but it’s interesting. It’s anti-Hillary. Probably full of propaganda. Maybe has some validity amongst our ever growing pocket of election information.

All about Hillary

I found this from The New York Times and found it to be useful. Also, this is where you can find the entire political rundown of issues, candidates, and news for the 2008 Presidential election.

Fact Check on First Debate

We find some spinning but no whoppers,” FactCheck declares after the first presidential debate of the 2008 primary season. You can read AP, Bloomberg and Reuters wire service takes on the Democratic hopefuls; also MSNBC (13 minutes of video), NYTimes and Washington Post. FoxCarolina has a transcript and some video coverage.

McCain on The Daily Show, Iran

I’m a Democrat, but I’ve always liked John McCain and the candor he normally exhibits when talking with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. Just the fact that he has been on the program – not just once but more than any other guest – says something about his willingness to speak up, for or against his party, on controversial issues.

But declarations about “nobody complaining more than me over the last several years about the way the war was being mismanaged” aside, recent comments during his latest appearance on the show seem to indicate that the outspoken, sometimes defiant McCain has retreated far back within the normal Republican confines to embrace the general party line. I guess I should have seen the writing on the wall when the man who just a few months ago said that the military option should be a last resort starts making jokes about bombing Iran.
